On 5th December 2024, Group of students from classes VI to XI, accompanied by their teachers Mrs. Reetika Kohli and Ms. Tanuja Rawat, had the opportunity to attend an enriching and hands-on chemistry workshop titled “Chemistry is Fun” at The Doon School, as part of the International Students School Conference 2024.
This interactive session, led by renowned chemist Dr. Uday Maitra, offered our students more than just textbook knowledge. It provided them with a unique chance to dive into the practical and exciting aspects of chemistry that often remain hidden behind theoretical learning. From thrilling live experiments such as Elephant Toothpaste, Magic Writing, and Fluorescence, to eye-opening videos of hazardous experiments, the session captivated the imagination of every student present. These activities allowed our students to see firsthand how chemistry is not just a subject, but a fascinating and dynamic science that impacts our everyday lives.
What truly set this experience apart was Dr. Maitra’s approach to science communication. His emphasis on the “A, B, C” method—Accurate, Brief, and Clear—thereby encouraged students to think critically and express their ideas precisely, a lesson that will undoubtedly serve them well in their academic pursuits and beyond.
The highlight of the day was the light-hearted Element Song, which blended humour with learning, leaving students with a newfound sense of enthusiasm for chemistry. By the end of the session, the students were not only amazed by the experiments but were also deeply inspired by the hands-on nature of science.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the school management for providing our students with this exceptional opportunity. Attending such workshops fosters a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and encourages a more hands-on approach to learning, which is vital for nurturing young minds. This experience will undoubtedly inspire our students to pursue further exploration in the field of science with curiosity and passion.
The students and teachers from Ann Mary School are immensely thankful for this memorable experience, which has made them look at chemistry not just as a subject but as a fascinating and fun science that is all around us.
